| Call for Cooperation in Intellectual Property Rights Protection August 11, 2003 Since April 2003 CIPR, the Latvian Business Software Alliance (BSA), the Latvian Association of Performers and Producers (LaIPA), the Latvian Music Producers' Association (LaMPA), the Latvian Authors' Association and the Latvian Copyright Agency (AKKA/LAA) have been cooperating jointly on a comprehensive package of amendments and recommendations for the Prime Minister. CIPR and its Latvian partners sent this package of amendments and recommendations to the Prime Minister on August 11, 2003. It contained proposed changes to nine laws and seven government regulations and a number of measures to increase the administration's capacity. In response, the Prime Minister placed the Minister of Justice in charge of cooperating with CIPR to effect change. CIPR is collaborating on its tactics and key messages with the State Prosecutor's Office, State Police, Economic Police, Customs, PTO and copyright organizations. CIPR Baltics looks forward to long-term cooperation with the Latvian Minister of Justice on intellectual property legislation, regulations and enforcement. Additionally, a group of several non-governmental organizations nominated Romans Baumanis, the CIPR Representative in the Baltic States, to be a co-coordinator of further dialogue with the Latvian government.
