CIPR Activities   |   International Seminars, Workshops and Conferences

CIPR sponsors and participates in numerous seminars, workshops and conferences on intellectual property issues throughout the CIS, Baltic States, Europe and the United States. CIPR has previously partnered with various organizations and governments to make these events possible, including WIPO, national patent and trademark offices, the CIS Interstate Council for the Protection of Industrial Property and customs agencies.

CIPR members and representatives have been featured speakers at conferences on IP topics organized by INTA, Interpol, WIPO, Euroforum, Marcus Evans, REACT Germany, the U.S.— Russia Business Council, Rospatent and other international and regional institutions.

  • CIPR Executive Director Tom Thomson and CIPR U.S. Representative Amanda Lahan met with a U.S. Department of State sponsored delegation of library and IP professionals to discuss the challenges facing national and academic libraries throughout Russia, including how to protect up-to-date electronic and hard copy materials for patrons and how to fulfill their obligations to protect the IP rights of the authors. Practical strategies for advancing legislation and getting support from key governmental and non-governmental stakeholders were identified. The delegation included representatives from the National Library of Russia, State Polytechnic University, St. Petersburg, and the National Library of Karelia, among others.

  • CIPR Executive Director Tom Thomson discussed the role of public-private partnerships in the IPR policymaking process and in raising public awareness of the vital role played by trademarks, patents and copyrights in growing economies, as well as how to create incentives for innovation and technology development in developed and emerging markets to a U.S. Department of Commerce sponsored delegation of IP, legal and business professionals from Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Armenia, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.
