| CIPR Activities | Public Awareness CIPR educates and shapes the opinions of government and business leaders, as well as the media and general public on IPR issues and their importance for investment, economic growth and tax revenues in the region. Since it was founded in 1999, CIPR has raised IP awareness through releasing locally and internationally the results of CIPR’s survey research on the state of IP protection in the countries of the former Soviet Union and consumers’ view of counterfeit goods in the marketplace. In 2003 and 2006, CIPR released the results of a consumer survey that showed that Russian consumers were extremely concerned about the health risks posed by counterfeit products and wanted stronger actions by government authorities to punish violators and to remove fake goods from the marketplace. Surveys of rights holders on the state of IP protections were conducted in Russia, Ukraine and in the Baltic States. The public release of the survey results were widely covered by electronic and print news media and publicly acknowledged by government officials as influencing their views on IPR protection. CIPR frequently publishes articles and opinion editorials on topical IP issues in mainstream and professional publications and is interviewed regularly by local and international news media outlets. News media monitoring and information sharing have been important elements of CIPR’s public awareness activities. CIPR distributes periodic alerts on emerging IP developments and on a monthly basis a selection of news media articles on topical IP matters to a large database that includes government officials, news media, and rights holders, among others. CIPR works with other organizations to develop IP awareness programs. For example, as a member of the Interpol Intellectual Property Crime Action Group (IIPCAG), CIPR worked with other members to build awareness of Interpol’s anti-counterfeiting and piracy program among law enforcement officials from it’s member states and rights holders. - The Coalition for Intellectual Property Rights (CIPR) releases the major findings of a new survey of Russian and international rights holders on IPR protection and enforcement in Russia.
