CIPR was well represented at the International Trademark Association's (INTA) annual meeting in San Francisco, California May 5-9. The INTA Conference is the largest gathering of trademark professionals in the world.

CIPR's exhibit booth at INTA attracted more than 1000 visitors, including company representatives, attorneys and government officials, as well as representatives of almost every Baltic State and CIS country.

At the booth, CIPR distributed a newly updated Coalition brochure, recent CIPR materials such as CIPR's USTR Special 301 submission, CD-ROM versions of our legislative database, and CIPR sunglasses featuring our logo. The booth also featured the website, WWW.CIPR.ORG.

CIPR members also led substantive discussions during the course of the week. CIPR President Peter Necarsulmer led a luncheon discussion of recent developments in trademark law in the region; Frank Hellwig of Anheuser-Busch Companies spoke on Geographic Indications.

CIPR hosted Ukraine Patent and Trademark Office Director Mikola Paladiy at the INTA Conference. At the invitation of CIPR Co-Counsel Janet Hoffman of Fross, Zelnick, Lehrman & Zissu, Mr. Paladiy addressed the INTA East European/CIS Subcommittee. Janet is Chair of the Subcommittee.

CIPR is working with Janet Hoffman and her subcommittee on developing a program at the 2002 INTA Conference in Washington, DC that will feature the directors general of the patent and trademark offices of the 15 countries of the former Soviet Union.
