| Latvia IP Working Group Is Up and Running The Latvian government welcomed CIPR’s initiative to set up a Working Group to review existing intellectual property protection legislation By decree of the Prime Minister, a working group has been established on 30 October 2003 under the auspices of the Ministry of Justice with the mandate to conduct a comprehensive review of the existing protection of intellectual property rights in Latvia and, in particular, to draft the necessary amendments to make it more efficient and enforceable. CIPR invited a broad range of IP organizations to join this effort. The newly formed rights owners cluster now includes the Coalition for Intellectual Property Rights (CIPR), the Latvian Committee of Business Software Alliance (BSA), the Association of Latvian Performers and Producers (LaIPA), the Latvian Music Producers’ Association (LaMPA), the Latvian Authors’ Association and the Latvian Copyright Agency (AKKA/LAA). From the government’s side, the Ministry of Justice plays the role of coordinator. The State Prosecutor’s Office, Economic Police, State Customs, Patent and Trademark Office and the ministries of culture and finance are also part of the task force.
