EU Enforcement Directive, Latvia

November 28, 2005

CIPR actively participates in the working group under Latvian Ministry of Justice and advocate for enactment of key amendments to the Latvian legislation to fully implement the EU Directive on Enforcement of IPR.

A new chapter to the Civil Procedure Law on provisional measures has been drafted according to the EU Directive on Measures and Procedures to Ensure the Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights that will come into force in Latvia in 2006 and submitted to the working group developed under supervision of Ministry of Justice. CIPR is member of this working group, and is the only rightsholders organization in the group.

In addition to legislation changes, CIPR will continues to work with enforcement agencies to secure Directive‘s implementation in every day life. As an active member of the Latvian Ministry of Interior's Advisory Board, CIPR is advocating with the parliament to secure further state funding for the IPR enforcement division of the Economic Police and to increase the new unit's capacity building through IPR training.
