| | CIPR Activities | Enforcement Actions CIPR supports its legislative advocacy efforts with concrete solutions for enforcement and by cooperating with customs and law enforcement agencies to ensure that rhetoric turns into action. Whether it is information sharing, active participation in enforcement actions or reforming legislation and regulations to improve enforcement, CIPR is working to protect the IP of rights holders and build relationships with enforcement officials based on trust and cooperation. CIPR regularly cooperates with enforcement officials in the countries of the former Soviet Union in several areas. For example, CIPR has provided Russian Federation State Customs and Latvian State Customs with information on ongoing product counterfeiting cases. CIPR has cooperated with local enforcement officials on anti-counterfeiting operations, including to help the Latvian government in 2001 to organize the first large-scale destruction of seized counterfeits in the region, featuring the public destruction of more than 25 million fake cigarettes. In Russia, CIPR worked with enforcement officials on the seizure and destruction of an estimated 46 million fake cigarettes in two separate operations in 2004 and 2005. CIPR collaborates with other local and international IP stakeholder organizations to improve awareness and cooperation with local government officials. In collaboration with WIPO, CIPR has organized training sessions for judges, prosecutors and customs officials in Russia, Kazakhstan, Moldova and Ukraine. CIPR cooperates with several national and international anti-counterfeiting and piracy organizations and law enforcement authorities, including the Global Anti-Counterfeiting Group, International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition and Interpol, where CIPR is a founding member of Interpol’s Intellectual Property Crime Action Group. |
