Sobyitiya In the Ryazan region, law enforcement officials won a battle with con men. They succeeded in stopping the export of an enormous batch of so-called "fake" smokes into the European Union. More than 3,000 boxes of cigarettes branded with well-known trademarks were discovered under piles of hay in the factory's warehouses. Preliminary estimations put their value as high as $8 million. The counterfeits were transported by truck to a landfill, where they were destroyed. According to law enforcement officials, the counterfeits belonged to a criminal group that was arrested in the beginning of 2003. |
