| Channel 1 (ORT) October 8, 2004 News Five million dollars. This is the value of a batch of cigarettes that were destroyed in Ryazan. They were destroyed because the whole batch — 2 million packs — was counterfeit and the cigarettes were not even suitable for re-processing. The products were manufactured at the well-known Shilovo Tobacco Factory. Cheap Russian cigarettes were officially being produced, but in fact cigarettes with well-known Western trademarks were coming off the conveyor and being sent to Europe. The fakes were confiscated a year ago, and have now been driven over by bulldozers. Twelve people have been indicted in the Shilovo case, two of whom are wanted nationally. |
